Did this video help you?

IRACEMY SUPRA: Nice vid... i noticed you replaced both the tensioners also, would you say this was necassary or just preventitive maintenance??

Jason Johnson: Great video, big help.

wkeil1981: Great vid, main belt easy. Ac belt hard. Thanks

sohc281: Thanks good stuff

Federico Velasquez: Awesome demonstration, Thank you. I did it very easily following your video.

sossco4th: @mikeaa000 I have having the same problem. From what I've been able to find, it's most likely the AC clutch that is locked. If you call a dealership, chances are they won't replace just the AC clutch, but rather the entire compressor - my dealership quoted my 900-1500 bucks. At that rate it would behoove me to just buy a new vehicle (2000 silverado - 188K). But I was able to find a place that will replace the AC clutch as they have the required "special" tools, going to call them as well.

1A Auto Parts: We currently do not carry this particular part. Thank you for asking. Have a great day.

HandyManCam: Great video. I appreciate you taking the time to make it. I have an 04 Silverado that had a compressor belt that was really worn. The compressor seems to be fine spinning freely. I have a new belt to put on. This was helpful.

MrBuctzotz: GREAT VIDEO!!!! VERY HELPFUL!!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!

jeff macon: very informative video..this helped me replacing my a/c belt on my 01 yukon xl. the a/c belt is still slipping after replacing the belt and tensioner and only slips when a/c is on, not when it's off. doesn't slip at idle either, only when i accelerate. a/c cools very good at idle which it didn't do before i swapped to a new belt, it just blew out air that smelt of mildew. could my clutch be locking up or my compressor going out? also, what would cause the bad smelling air? thanks for helping

1A Auto Parts: If the issue is only when it happens when the A/C is running, there might be a bad bearing either in the pulley or there could be something wrong internally in the compressor.

Douglas Young: This video was great. I'd been stalling throughout the winter to replace the ac belt on my 2000 Z71, thinking there was no way I could do it. But today I thought I'd give it a shot. Confounded, I used the power of Google to search for tips and this video came up as an option. I watched it and 30 minutes later my AC is back to working!

stickysugarpuff: how do you tighten the AC belt?

1A Auto Parts: If you are getting a mildew smell coming from the vents, you might have cabin air filters that were installed in the vehicle that need to be changed out. Some of those vehicles came with them, others did not so you will have to check it out.

1A Auto Parts: The serpentine belt tensioner should automatically apply enough pressure to it so that it doesn't squeal. Over time the tensioners can loose some of their tention and need to be replaced. Hope this helps you out.

Tom Hartsell: I must tell you how much I appreciated watching your video. You saved me hours of trying to figure out on my own how to remove and replace the outer belt so I could install a new belt. Your video pics and angles specifically showed me how to remove tension on both belts. It made uninstall and reinstall a breeze That was a biggie... Thankyou.Thankyou.Thankyou.Thankyou.Thankyou.

1A Auto Parts: You may want to inspect the belt to see if it was coming into contact with something that may have frayed it. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

fishngolfdude: This video is much better than the Haynes repair manual. I bookmarked your website for future. Thanks for putting it together!

Blue04Z71: Nice 66 GTO drop top!!

Arlene Herrera: Great vid. The ac in my truck was coming out in in pulses. Slowly it stopped working less and less. Now is doesn't work at all. Could this be do to the belt?

1A Auto Parts: Thanks for watching. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393 FREE SHIPPING in the lower 48 States.

pablo martin: Thanks save me a lot time and money

mikeaa000: I have replace my Compressor belt twice and it keeps burning up why? thank you.

Jose Angel Vasquez: Very Helpful video. Its great to have a video like this to help you out when your trying to do repairs yourself. Thx

Chris Green: i used the video as a guide and what tools I needed but I didn't need to remove intake or skid plate like recommended. I have the 5.3 so maybe there is more room but I was able to reach the bottom tensioner without removing the skid plate. also I have an aftermarket intake so maybe that is why I had more room to reach the upper tensioner.

Steve O'Connor: Thanks for this video! My ac belt snapped on my 01 Tahoe and this video showed me how to replace it myself. All done in about 35 minutes!

1A Auto Parts: Turn the AC on and see how the AC clutch reacts, see if it shuts off when you loose the cold air. If it does, check the AC relays and the power to the system. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

brent6699: I had similar problem, freon was at proper levels.

MPhiG96SU: is there some kind of trick to get a "new" belt over both the crank and a/c rings...i tried over and over different methods but it never seemed to be enough slack in the belt to go over both....

1A Auto Parts: On that particular year I'm not 100% sure. You may want to ask the dealer, they could tell you if your vehicle came equipped with one. Hope this helps you out.

1A Auto Parts: It may fit snug but shouldn't be impossible either. If it's a new belt, measure it against the old belt to see if it's the right size and not smaller.

BullsEyeRocker: Great videos! Looks like I have my Next day off project before winter!

1A Auto Parts: You may be able to install a shorter belt to by-pass it. Some vehicles will have two different belt routing diagrams one with AC and one without.

jeff macon: what about the belt squeal? i tried putting another belt on 1/2" smaller but it wouldn't go even with tensioner loosened all the way. the first tensioner i put on to replace the factory tensioner broke so this is the 3rd tensioner on it. the slipping only happens while the compressor is engaged and it has a new dayco belt and tensioner, i've tried belt conditioner and even cleaned the pulleys with paint thinner to ensure there's no build up on it. would you say i need to replace the a/c clutch?

revisionxvideo: Great video - only one very minor item worth mentioning. In your companion Silverado video about the serpentine belt, you might want to mention that if you're doing both belts at the same time (like I was), do the AC one first. :)

infringinator: I'm missing a protective plate in front of my A/C belt in my 2007 1500 classic. Should there be a plate guard in front of the belt area?

Michael Johnson: i'm pretty sure my AC compressor is slowly dying. it's making a sporadic whine and grinding noise. will any harm be done to the engine if i remove the belt until i get it fixed?

Southern RC Adventures: I just bought a used 02 Chevy z71 and the air doesn't work and when I try to put freon in it just acts like it won't take it I just noticed that the ac belt isn't on, do you think that's why the air doesn't work and why it won't take the freon? Thanks for your time and helpful video any help would be greatly appreciated and thumbs up!

AJ Ramos: I replaced my belt and it only lasted about 3 months. It kept making a whiny sound whenever I turn the ac on but it would eventually stop, then all the sudden the belt broke and its just hanging on the pulley. Is there something else I need to do? Please Help!

1A Auto Parts: The AC compressor needs to spin with the belt in order for it to work correctly.

sossco4th: @mikeaa000 I'll post back with a verdict on Monday.

infringinator: does 1Aauto sell the engine shields? I'm missing mine and the dealer thinks they come standard

1A Auto Parts: Thanks for watching. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

1soccerkid: After I changed my ac belt my truck started making a noise in the cabin , what should I do to fix any suggestions ? It was the ac belt ..

1A Auto Parts: @1soccerkid If the belt is loose the belt tentioner may need to be replaced if it's not holding enough tension on the belt.

zrmalm: Great video! Really helped me out during my first AC and sperph. replacements. Thanks!!

Hugo Valdez: Hi very good videos thanks!!!! I have a question for you, I have a 02 chevy Tahoe 4.8 2WD. When I turn my a/c on, it feels like its going to turn off, also today my ac was on and as soonest i accelerated it started squeaking very load, I turn off the ac and it was fine again. Is this the ac compressor going bad? And if it is whats the repair cost on this I know is just a rough estimate but would like to know how much money Im going to spend! thank you in advance!!!

1A Auto Parts: You may want to have the Freon level checked to see if it needs to be charged. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
