Andrew Kwiatkowski: Great presentation. If you don't mind sharing, what is the make/model of that UV unit?

Szymon Kowalski: I like your idea with UV lamp.

Rev John O'Toole: I've seenpeople set up a used garbage disposal and sink set up outside to crush the apples, then a bearing press from harbor freight to press out the juice.
but you could just use a juicer, either a good quality should work fine for apples and other fruit and veggies.
thanks

mark1952able: Excellent!  I'll have to use my father's old wine crusher and press and make some!  Is the UV light that important?

gruntqueen: When I was young we'd gather wild apples in grain bags and our parents would truck them to the cider mill where they were chopped, pressed and the cider jugged while we waited. They had been using the same press, cloths and ricks at least since the end of WWII. Nobody washed apples, nobody got sick. It was always delicious.

GardenFork: Hi Steve, we ran the cider press this weekend, it was great. making some hard cider from the cider we pressed. thx, eric.

GardenFork: thanks scott, don't know why people think everything has to be in plastic now. wood works pretty well. eric.

GardenFork: thanks again Russ, we pressed cider this weekend with the rig, it was fun. eric.

Trumpet Guy Brewing: Great video!! This is a very cool cider press. Makes my creative juices start to flow!

russtex: Awesome cider press! Thanks for showing this!

scottscservices: Like he said, it's a small operation. Not going for the purest of products. A little natural essence isn't going to kill you. I would gladly drink it. Nice vid

GardenFork: I believe the state requires both the pre-wash and post pasteurization. they are using the UV because a heating rig is pricey, and they are a very small operation.

GardenFork: thanks James, a much better explanation than i could provide. eric.

JAIMIE GILCHRIST: awsome

James Davis: The bleach is presumably there to kill off any naturally occurring bugs on the apple surface. It won't be a strong solution (less than 1%) and the rinsing will wash what's left away. Cider is traditionally made in wood and cloth frames like this, and in my area there are still commercial breweries that ferment in wooden containers. Don't forget that if all goes to plan, the alcohol will pretty much kill off anything - that's why beer and cider keeps so long.

neon1000beech: Another great episode!
